Crazxy Movie Review

Crazxy is about a man fighting to save his daughter. Dr. Abhimanyu Sood (Sohum Shah) is a doctor in Delhi. One day, he is on his way to work with ₹5 crores in his car when he gets a call from a stranger. The caller claims that they have kidnapped his daughter Vedika (Unnati Surana). At first, Abhimanyu thinks it is a prank, but soon he realises that it is true. The kidnapper demands ₹5 crores as ransom.

Abhimanyu begins to question things—does the kidnapper know that he has ₹5 crores? He begins to suspect his ex-wife Bobby (voiced by Nimisha Sajayan), especially when his current partner (voiced by Shilpa Shukla) raises doubts in his mind. What happens next forms the heart of the story.

Crazxy Movie Review: Script

We are in Gurugram. Surgeon Dr Abhimanyu Sood (Sohum Shah) accidentally causes a patient’s death during an appendix operation. He faces a court case, which he knows he will lose, so he decides to settle it privately by giving the family ₹5 crore. He collects the money and puts it in the trunk of his car and leaves.

On the way, he gets a series of calls – his colleague checks if the money arrived on time (but why?); his girlfriend, who is saved as ‘Jaan’ on his phone, calls him; and then, a voice he recognises but cannot quite identify, tells him something shocking. His daughter Vedika has been kidnapped, and the ransom demanded is exactly ₹5 crore.

And thus the story goes. Dr. Abhimanyu never wanted a child with Down syndrome. He saw it as a burden and left his wife when she refused to abort the baby. After Vedika (Unnati Surana) was born, he mostly ignored her and even made hurtful comments, which she overheard. Now, Abhimanyu finds himself in a difficult situation – he needs Rs 5 crore to save his career, but his ex-wife pleads with him to use it to save their daughter. The kidnapper also sends a video of Vedika in which she is lying in her vomit, while his ex-wife alerts the police. But when the police call him to ask where he will meet the kidnapper, he keeps everything to himself.

As he rushes first to his original destination and then to the place mentioned by the kidnapper, Abhimanyu finally recognises the voice. He also realises that the kidnapper is a psychopath. Meanwhile, his lawyer warns him that without payment, he will definitely end up in jail. And as if things weren’t bad enough, his tyre also gets punctured!

It’s a race against time and fate. How will it all end? The story moves at a fast pace, though some parts seem unrealistic – like why Abhimanyu takes long, complicated routes instead of the faster GPS-suggested roads. One of the most amazing moments is when he directs a life-saving surgery on video while changing his tyre. But would something like this really be possible in real life?

Crazxy Movie Review: Star Cast

Sohum Shah plays Dr Abhimanyu well, starting out confident, then getting confused and finally angry and frustrated. As the situation spirals out of control, his appearance deteriorates even more, reflecting his mental and physical struggles. He is dedicated to his profession, but cold as a person – an absent father, an uncaring husband and, ultimately, a man with no way out.

The only other actress who appears on screen is Unnathi Surana, who plays his daughter. She appears at the end when she meets her remorseful father. There is also a young doctor on Dr Abhimanyu’s iPad, played by an unknown actor.

Every other role exists only as voices on the phone – Nimisha Sajayan as his ex-wife, Shilpa Shukla as his girlfriend ‘Jaan’, Tinnu Anand as the kidnapper and Piyush Mishra as his senior colleague. His lawyer and a few other minor characters also appear via voice only.

Crazxy Movie Review: Director, Music

Crazxy is a unique movie experience brought to life by writer-director Girish Kohli, who also co-wrote Kesari. Kohli keeps the audience engaged for most of the film, although the last 20 minutes follow a more predictable pattern. The camera work seems a bit garish at times, but it suits the wild nature of this thriller. What makes the film stand out is its social message about children with special needs and their unique strengths.

Jasper Kyd’s background score is catchy, although a bit too loud at times. The film has a mix of original and reused songs, with reworked versions of Abhimanyu (from Inquilaab, composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal) and Goli Maar Bheje Mein (from Satya, composed by Vishal Bharadwaj) adding to the impact.

Crazxy Movie Review: Conclusion

Irrespective of how successful the film is at the box office, this film is a must watch. It is as good as Pushpak and A Wednesday! In my opinion, it is even better than Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad.
